I'm not sure the article supports its thesis with anything concrete. It's the author's opinion that submodules and some scripts are inadequate, but in my experience, a variety of reliable and flexible developer experiences are possible. Many devs barely scratch the surface of what git can do anyway. Onboarding them on a few extra scripts seems better than an entirely new scm tool.
