Had you already uninstalled Flash, or were you running Firefox with Flash installed? Uninstalling Flash seems to have had a salutary effect on my Safari sessions, though I can't speak to Firefox, having given up on Firefox years ago for anything except the occasional CSS/JS debugging session.
