I want to stress this (tangential) part - China really hopes to significantly expand trade routes around Asia, Europe, and Africa, and it's strange how little we hear about it.
- mc32 7y agoThe one belt one road is kind of like their Pan-American highway system, albeit with local debt but Chinese labor. It’s dual purpose, expansionist as well as economic.
- arcticfox 7y agoI wonder how much physical 'stuff' manufacturing is going to matter in the future, even in high-tech. I feel like the overwhelming majority of value is being delivered from the software running on the high-tech devices, which can be written from anywhere.

I don't think that's true: I've read at least a dozen articles in the NYT about it specifically in the past year alone. And I'd estimate at least half their articles about China mention it as background.
