I'm desperate for a Gmail replacement that uses the Gmail API. I'll give this a try because I didn't find any other one and the canonical Gmail web client is utterly broken, too heavy, too slow. I don't want any enhancements, just basic email threads. Does anyone have a recommendation?

That's quite fascinating! Thank you for the interesting perspective :) I will mock up some minimal interface designs. Perhaps a mail distraction free mode (we currently support a distraction-free mode for typing emails). This could be very cool :D
