My anecdotal impression is that most Americans can't be bothered to think about these topics at all, and if you try to bring them up it's brushed off with a "I can't be bothered to think about anything that isn't day to day getting by". I wish anyone I knew outside of tech circles cared even 1% as much... but I've given up trying to point out all the instances of corporations fucking over the public.
