What an obscene comment.

What an obscene comment.
- wizardforhire 8y agoThe truth has a tendency of coming off that way.
- LiquidSky 8y agoWhy? Every word of it is true. Christians treated Jews with brutality and contempt for nearly 2000 years, and there's a longstanding tradition of minimizing or disparaging Muslim thought and accomplishments that is only very recently being changed.
- 1337biz 8y agoThat argument is exactly on the same level hardcore anti Muslim activists make against Islam. Just selectively picking out the worst part of its history or teachings and trying to make it representative for the whole religion.
- mcphage 8y ago> Just selectively picking out the worst part of its history There aren't many good parts in European history about the treatment of Jews. > trying to make it representative for the whole religion It has nothing to do with the religion, and everything to do with the culture.
- olliej 8y agoThe interaction between Jews and Christians was continuous for more than a thousand years and they were still subject to genocides into at least the late 50s, There were large numbers of Americans who agreed with hitlers views of Jews during ww2 they were against the invading, less so the holocaust. The problem is that judeo-christian is used to try and erase that from history, which then removes the context for “why do I believe Jews own all the banks/control the media/have horns/eat babies/incest/etc” - by removing the recognition that they were horribly abused for a millennia, people don’t realize that they’re simply repeating intentionally anti-Jew propaganda from the early Christian church.
- anti-christ 8y agoSeems to carry and foment a deeply anti-christian sentiment.
- olliej 8y agoBased on? I am genuinely curious what is obscene here? Pogroms (massacres) against Jews by Christians occurred in the 20th century independently of Nazi germany, both before and after ww1 and 2. The crusaders massacred Jews in France as well as Muslims. Most countries in Europe at some point expelled the jews repeatedly through out history. Most didn’t allow Jews to own land until the 1800s, most didn’t consider Jews citizens, and had taxes specifically for Jews (as a group, they weren’t considered individuals). If you find that history is obscene then you should just try to not repeat it. Judeo-christian is a very modern term design specifically to try and claim that there has been a long standing positive relationship between Christianity and Judaism. It is almost exclusively used when comparing to Islam. Although historically Muslims have been treated slightly better than the Jews (who Christians blamed for the death of Christ)
- Mediterraneo10 8y ago> It is almost exclusively used when comparing to Islam. Is it? Search through 20th-century usages of the word as reflected in e.g. Google Books, and you’ll see that the term was widely used among authors for whom Islam was not even really on their radar. It wasn’t until the 1980s at least that Islam gradually entered the consciousness of most Westeners to the point where the term "Judeo-Christian" could take on any meaning of opposition to Islam.
- Udik 8y ago> Judeo-christian is a very modern term design specifically to try and claim that there has been a long standing positive relationship between Christianity and Judaism Points of view :) For me, it designed specifically to claim that there have been profound and positive cultural influxes from Judaism in the Western culture- a claim I find very suspicious (not that I deny any influence, but there are absolutely fundamental contributors that are excluded from the definition- Greek and Roman culture). It's also possibly correlated with what- very intuitively- I see as a progressive Judaization of American evangelical Christians.
