This is horrible. I wonder what on the scaffold started the fire. Even a cigarette could have done this..?

You think someone did it..? This seems to be who Newsweek is accusing: "The pressure is coming from the radical secularists or anti-religion groups as well as feminist activists who tend to target churches as a symbol of the patriarchy that needs to be dismantled,"

I would not be surprised to hear it was sparked by Islamic extremists. According to wikipedia there were two known attempts on the cathedral in the past 3 years: > 8 September 2016: Notre Dame Cathedral bombing attempt. Arrests made after an explosives-filled car was discovered parked alongside the cathedral. > 10 February 2017: Police arrested four people in Montpellier, France, including a 16-year-old girl and a 20-year-old man already known by authorities to have ties to extremist Islamist organizations, on charges of plotting to travel to Paris and attack the cathedral.[37] see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre-Dame_de_Paris#Events_in_the_Cathedral https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre-Dame_de_Paris#Events_in_...

This is the most probable cause: dozen of churchs degradation have been done since the beginning of the year. Two days ago a pakistani destroyed things at Saint Denis, and last month there was a fire at Saint Sulpice. Everyone knows who can have done that but will the government will have the balls to say the truth? This is our 09/11.
