One of the things that made my mind explode was that this was blatantly recommended in The Hard Thing About Hard Things. Horowitz argues that your relationship with your business partner is worth more than the employee and you shouldn’t entertain solicitations for employment.

- munk-a 8y agoThis is why, as an employee, I am not willing to put my neck out for my employer - modern society and goings on are a pretty clear lesson that employees that take risks for a company end up eating them and nobody higher up cares (unless it's essentially free to care, which is more easily explained by self-interested behavior than any sort of altruism).

- Nevermark 8y agoBalancing the risk/reward of poaching employees from a partner company makes sense. This is not about backroom agreements to artificially keep wages down, but about weighing the pro's and con's any particular action which could derail important projects. If the employee is worth more than the risks of poaching them, then do so. If not, it would be foolhardy to do so.
