There are cases when JSON is really unreadable. Multi line strings, strings with lots of escaping, etc. There are a lot of other formats that solve these problems (eg YAML, which certainly has other unrelated problems). There are trade offs with the various formats. Think about your use cases and pick the one that fits them the best.
