I have yet to encounter any closed stackoverflow question and think to myself “boy am I glad they closed that one!”
In fact, most of the time I encounter one of these closed questions, it was precisely the question I was curious about.
I just don’t understand why they do this.
- lacey 8y agoThey try to address this up-front: > As it currently stands, this question is not a good fit for our Q&A format. We expect answers to be supported by facts, references, or expertise, but this question will likely solicit debate, arguments, polling, or extended discussion. Questions like this, although very interesting, just don’t fit the Q&A format they are promoting, where they aim to be free of debate and opinion.
- SiVal 8y agoI totally agree. Probably a third of the useful answers I've gotten from SO have been cases where I asked Google, Google said "yes, StackOverflow has an answer to your exact question", and I am delighted to see that someone helpful and knowledgeable somehow managed to get the answer out before the guards swarmed in and demanded an end to all that forbidden usefulness. What a ridiculous, hostile system.
