Similar to some others here, I always thought that most sites used JavaScript click handlers that send the host which links are clicked (where the target is visited directly and not through a redirect link).
Firefox with extensions is the solution we should evangelize as some browsers become hostile to user privacy or just change things and pretend it’s not a big deal (cough Chrome cough).
