Any disk older than 2003 or so was measured in MiB, even though it was labeled as MB. The point of a 1.45MiB file was that it would not fit on a "1.44MB" floppy.
RAM is still labeled in 2^30 byte sizes instead of 10^9, because address lines are more important than hard drive manufacturers gaming their specs.
