It stuck in my mind, because it was hell. So this segment really leaped out at me:
> I sat in the seat for a moment ... My takeaway is that the comfort is roughly comparable.
My takeaway is that the author is full of shit.
Sit in that fucker for 4 hours. Make sure you're over the age of 30 when you do it.
- brandon272 8y agoWhen I sit in an economy airline seat I fairly quickly (within 30 minutes) begin to get severe aching in my glutes/upper hamstring area that persists for the duration of the flight. I know everyone complains about commercial airline seats, but what is it about airplane seats that does this?
- tom_ 8y agoEvery fitment will have been space- and weight-optimized, for obvious reasons, so you're already squeezed in that bit tighter than you might be in most other forms of public transport. Air pressure is also lower than normal, and you're going to be sat there for longer than usual... it all adds up, I figure.
- EamonnMR 8y agoFor me it is that my femurs cannot properly fit between the back of the seat and the front of the seat ahead of me.
- frenchy 8y agoIt's probably cramping. Often, when you sit like that, certain parts of your legs end up being under more pressure than their used to (because of the weight of your body on them). If your legs aren't used to it, the muscle tissue can get deprived of blood, which causes them to cramp.
- djsumdog 8y agoI don't fly much after returning to America. It's not the planes that bother me. I'm rather small and can fit fine into the seats. It's the fucking TSA, molest you to get on a plane bullshit. I've flow through over 12 countries and America is still the only one where you have to take off your shoes at every airport. It's fucking bullshit.
