Fair enough and you are probably right. I come from the position that you can only beat a dog so long before it bites back. But I feel like this could have been prevented if developers weren’t so enamored with the idea of developing games. Yeah it’s cool but it’s not cool enough to throw your dignity away.
- hannasanarion 8y agoAnd so you kill the dog and get another. People who want to make games are not in short supply.
- lovetocode 8y agoCan’t argue with that.
- kabacha 8y agoSoftware engineering for video games is pretty darn complicated. Surely it must be hard to get hold of the next John Carmack or at least someone remotely close to that. Is demand for good talent really filled here?
- TimothyBJacobs 8y agoGame studios aren't filled with and don't need to be filled with hundreds of John Carmacks.
- hannasanarion 8y agoIf your "about-to-release crunch" involves building an entire engine from scratch with no help John Carmack style, you have much bigger problems.
- maxxxxx 8y agoThe whole talk about "talent" is bullshit. Big corps don't want John Carmacks. They want replaceable, predictable drones that do what they are told to do.
- maxxxxx 8y ago“ I come from the position that you can only beat a dog so long before it bites back. ” If done right you can beat the dog for a very long time and if the dog actually bites back you get rid of it and get another one.
