My general test for most new technologies is that the desire to use it has to have arisen out of the pain of not using it. If I'm looking at a framework for any reason other than having shouted "there has to be a better way!" then I'm not in a position to evaluate its merits, and even if it is the right choice I'm not in a position to understand why, and will thus be prone to using it in a stupid way. It might seem expensive to do things the "wrong" way first every time, but I really do think it's necessary.
