So division by zero should be handled the same way as network timeout? Because that math code is gonna be verbose. Error codes and exceptions are both awful for control flow. Typed errors and checked exceptions work better for known errors but break down for IO because you can't handle all IO errors - new OS versions can add new ones. And all of these are awkward when propagating errors between threads.
