Yet there's millions of google hits for "exceptions should be exceptional" and variations of it. This meme has taken hold in a big way. I've tried to use them in other ways -- after all, as the author of a program, how can I possibly know which branch will be the common one, for the user? -- and I always get beaten down by other developers with this aphorism. As this article points out: "The naming of ‘Exception’ is actually quite unfortunate."
