On the surface this isn’t shocking at all. And yet, when was the last time anyone really tried to compete with Facebook? Sure, they’re in the ad business like everyone else, but no one really competes with them on product.
Yet whenever we hear about Facebook culture, it’s about move fast and break things. Is that really a culture equipped for coping with regulatory compliance? In my experience, the answer is no.
So I’m really left scratching my head on this one.
- ben_jones 8y agoYou can't compete with Facebook unless you commit the same invasive acts that allowed them to collect their data in the first place. Nobody is going to willing enter their phone-number, address, all their friends, all their contacts, all their meta data, at world-scale, anytime soon to some new start-up.
