I have almost the same feelings about my 2018 MBP. I have been very happy with a 2018 Dell XPS 15. The build quality is absolutely in line with Apple standards (though obviously a different style). In particular I am a stickler for the mac touchpad quality and, while Dell doesn't quite match it, it's well within the tolerable range for me. The 4K screen and touch sensitivity are nice bonuses — I didn't think I'd ever use the touch but I have come to using it a lot in casual interactions, e.g. during meetings.
