"Milwaukee’s Socialists were so fiscally and socially responsible that historians to this day hail them as exemplars of a uniquely American form of democratic socialism"
I'm not sure why we are even comparing the Socialists of these days to our version of socialism today. Socialism today has nothing to do with 'fiscal responsibility' and there really is no plan to pay for the enormous amount of government programs proposed.
Well, there is a plan. Nobody wants to mention that the plan is to drastically increase everyone's taxes, because it's unpopular.
- nilskidoo 8y agoI'd never consider myself a socialist, but I am all for hacking away at the military budget to raise the standard of living. It'd ease foreign relations considerably, like the drunk uncle who's loads of fun provided he only visits every few years. I mean, the USA armed forces constitute the most expensive and expansive venture in world history, but nobody wants to fess up. I agree on today's socialists. ACO's heart may be in the right place, but she's either too young or too starstruck to understand what leading by example means. Personal sacrifice is the least popular thing in the western world.
- howard941 8y agoI think the plan is to print money via MMT rather than destroying money with taxation but I'm probably wrong.
