It's an AD...
- Crosseye_Jack 8y agoJessa Jones (The tech featured) is well known in the iPhone repair business. She has been banned from the Apple forums countless times for suggesting people have their apple devices repaired outside of the AASP eco-system over the years. People will post "can I fix X?" or "is there any way to do a data recovery from Y?" and while others (including Apple) she will say their is no hope she will say "Maybe, depends on what is fried" (On an iPhone the data on the NAND is encrypted with a key held in the secure enclave which is stored within the SoC, so on a heavily damaged board and its just a data recovery and not a fix then the CPU and NAND often get swapped out onto a donor iPhone's PCB). The counter augment to her getting banned from the forums is "Its apples forum, they can allow or disallow what ever they want on there". Anytime a article is posted about how something can be repaired outside the manufactures eco-system it could be considered as an AD as they will talk to people who are doing this on a regular basis. Same could be argued about people hacking their John Deere tractors to remove the "authorized repair" lockouts, then articles about that pop-up it could be argued the article is an AD for what ever 3rd party they talk to who is providing the "hack". EDIT: Granted this article (I saw the vid a ~couple of days~ 17ish hours ago when it first came out though Louis Rossmann.) does paint Jessa in a very good light.
