I have to wonder if cleanliness and care for the device is a big contributor to this issue. The people I personally know that have been impacted by this keyboard problem are the same folks that seem to treat their devices pretty badly: grimy keyboard/trackpad, outer case has all sorts of visible evidence of minor damage, and/or the device is carried around without a sleeve in a bag where it's jumbled up with other misc items and debris.
- handzbagz 8y agoMy £400 Dell Latitude is 5 years old, gets 12 hours of use a day and is dragged through some very dusty, dirty environments on a daily basis. All the keys are working. If you make a consumer product that can't withstand basic consumer use then you're doing something wrong.
- kalleboo 8y agoI'm clumsy and lazy and treat my devices badly. It was one of the reasons I was a fan of Apple laptops. I dropped one of the pre-unibody models while carrying it around with one hand on a Skype call and it got a nice dent but kept on trucking. My 2012 MBPr followed me around the world, working out of a dusty cafe in Cambodia, poolside in Singapore, backs of Thai buses... and I still get to use it when my 2017 MBP goes in the shop. If I have to go to Lenovo to get a sturdy laptop I'll be sad.
