Any links about Sweden? Most voucher efforts in the US seem to work by taking the best students and/or most engaged parents out of the public schools. And Swedish PISA test scores seem to have floated around 500 for the last 15 years, with a slight downward trend, if any.
- njepa 8y agoAs far as I know schooling hasn't improved in Sweden because of the voucher system, instead schools have fallen behind the neighboring countries which have more traditional systems.
- gridlockd 8y agoSweden adopted the voucher system in 1992, not fifteen years ago. There is evidence that the outcome was an improvement: https://web.archive.org/web/20130512223637/http://www.ifau.se/Upload/pdf/se/2012/wp12-19-Independent-schools-and-long-run-educational-outcomes.pdf https://web.archive.org/web/20130512223637/http://www.ifau.s... Of course, there's a political debate attached to it and you will find a lot of people to frame it all differently, but the facts are clear: The private schools are superior. https://tino.us/2011/03/on-the-swedish-voucher-system/ https://tino.us/2011/03/on-the-swedish-voucher-system/ Sinking PISA scores in the last years is probably best explained by a lowering of standards to accommodate, among other things, for a surging population of newly-arrived immigrants.
