We will see once you release the source code, but for now maybe tone down the language on your site and in your comments. Of course your code is going to compile faster if you don’t support any platforms or optimizations. If you’re really serious about building a programming language I suggest porting V to llvm IR so you can focus on the parts you’re obviously more interested in.
- amedvednikov 8y agoThe website doesn't claim V does optimization in the fast builds. On the opposite, everything is explained very clearly. Supporting more platforms will not make compilation slower. > I suggest porting V to llvm IR No thanks :) I'd like to keep 1.5 million loc per second.
- ilovecaching 8y agoI can only assume that you are intentionally trolling at this point. What you’re doing is wrong. Making misleading claims to make people think you’re competing at the same level as industrial languages built by teams of doctorates in PL and engineers who have spent years studying compilers to sell something you haven’t even open sourced yet is really scummy. You're trivializing the 99% of the work that is required to build a production language and taking people's money through Patreon to fund the continuation of this charade.
- fxfan 8y agoIt's his website, he can do whatever he wants. You are not a paying customer. Stop being a choosing beggar.
- ilovecaching 8y agoReading through your comments, I assume you are either a second account or an accomplice in the author's trolling. I don't care about his language. I care about spreading misinformation to people who don't know any better.
- fxfan 8y agoYOu're dumb if "second account" is your only defense. Downvote and move on, you're not as smart as you think- people here are pretty knowledgeable.
- tptacek 8y agoIf you think the accounts are related, mail hn@yc and tell them so. The guidelines explicitly ask you not to write comments like these in public. Please stop.
- coldtea 8y ago>Of course your code is going to compile faster if you don’t support any platforms or optimizations. And that's fine too. I don't want support for some BS platform slow down the platform 90% of people and servers use. Perhaps add ARM to x86, but that's it.
