Are they going to take the same stance to videos about gaming, because gaming addiction is a real problem and a progressive diet of “Lets Plays” normalizes unhealthy amounts of video games, by showing people whose entire life is video games?
Why is that different than politics?
- InitialLastName 8y agoI can't believe I have to say this, but it's different because political beliefs, whether they inspire one to shoot a bunch of people or just to vote for the "burn it all down" party can have a damaging influence over society as a whole. I.e. it's not just about the personal responsibility to oneself as much as the risk of being inspired to terrorism.

Sorry but you can't claim politics as holy and protected while disregarding gaming, modded cars, and other topics, arguably more political than "politics" topics.
- unpwn 8y agoIt has been argued many times that video games desensitize kids to violence & lead to violence. By your logic we would ban videos of call of duty as well. And your second point is you believe youtube videos are leading to people voting for an undesirable candidate. Why not just ban political conversation altogether? This way we can ensure people vote for pre-approved candidates.
- sisu2019 8y agoPolitics I don't like are dangerous and must be banned. Is that clear enough?
- InitialLastName 8y agoYou're right, I should never have brought politics into a discussion of violent radicalization. Those things definitely never overlap.
- FakeComments 8y agoThe banning of dissent under the pretense of radicalism has harmed more people than terrorism — Stalin’s purges, Mao’s purges, heck, even Hitler was just clearing out the seditious members of society who were undermining a strong Germany. Your arguments, however you mean them, are also those used by tyrannical oppressors to justify the powers they use to commit great evil.
- InitialLastName 8y agoIn an (unintentional?) irony, all of those people you cited rose to power and did great damage to their societies by exploiting radicalism in politics.
- FakeComments 8y agoSure — but each turned around and caused great harm through false claims of being opposed to radicalism while using power to silence their political enemies. It wasn’t during their radical phase that the mass evils happened, but as they instituted oppressive measures in the name of safety having secured power. Those measures to oppress radicalism are instrumental to systematic evil. This exactly matches the modern left: they accumulated power through acts of radicalism from the 1960s to present, peaking with racial violence in the 1980s, are intentionally misrepresenting the volume of left wing versus right wing extremism now (hint: over the past two years, there’s been more left wing violence), and now started agitating to silence their enemies under the name of preventing extremism. I picked those people intentionally: they’re all people who believe the same socialist radical left policies, who had acts of radicalism in their past, and who went on to great evil following the period they started calling for violence and censorship to silence “radicals”. My exact call out is that it is analogous to leftist behavior now. I think you’d have trouble finding similar examples of that style of censorship being used for good, which is why you haven’t called them out as evidence in a single reply.
- FakeComments 8y agoGaming addiction is a systemic problem that’s impacting the social stability of several Asian nations, and possibly Western ones — your argument isn’t principled, merely special pleading.
