GitLab had the really cool CI/CD features before Bitbucket was getting some attention in this area. Also you have to differentiate Stash (on-prem; Java) and Bitbucket (on-demand [if it works haha]; Python). Bitbucket was meant to be used with Bamboo for pipelining so it was just a GUI for managing repos. GitLab is open source! That is a big advantage in itself.
