I had a chuckle and generally I agree with you. However I see as part of the problem that trust in experts has eroded caused by... those experts themselves. There are many accounts of matter experts turning out to be shills for a certain industry which did harm to public up to upright killing people. Look at the opioid crisis or the latest development with Boeing. How would a layperson distinguish between honest and dishonest statements?
