I'd be more supportive of this if it standardized (and mandated) unsubscribe links. Email would be less of a hassle if I could just unsubscribe from many things in a standardized way within the email client itself.

That already exists: `List-Unsubscribe` since 1998,RFC 2369.

  Making it mandatory would help.
