Because in the northern latitudes there is no such thing as 'noon'.
- delinka 8y agoThere is indeed a highest point the sun reaches during the day. It's known as "solar noon."
- rfergie 8y agoI don't understand? Are you talking about days in winter where the sun doesn't rise at all?
- otabdeveloper1 8y agoNo, I'm talking about the fact that "noon" has no cultural or practical significance if the solar day changes wildly during the year.
- ceejayoz 8y agoThere's something like a million people in the entire world subject to that edge case. 0.014% of the world doesn't have a solar noon for at least one day a year. I'd say that's not enough to avoid fixing timezones for the other 99.99%.
