I'd suggest that you don't need input type='number' where the number is an identifier, not a quantity. However, that would put mobile users at a disadvantage, because they'd have to switch to the numeric keyboard manually. The input device is also not at fault here. It's the browser vendor's implementation of the number field that isn't optimal.
