My sci-fi plot theory: our universe is what is inside a black hole. The big bang was the formation of a black hole on another universe pulling matter to ours.

Isn't that just a mainstream physics theory?

Is it? Gotta change my plot now then :)

The problem with that plot is that even if it's true, it doesn't change anything. You can't leave the black hole (because space-time at the edge is expanding faster than the speed of light), so there's nowhere else to go.

There is where the "-fi" part enters (I'm ok with "soft" sci-fi).

Stanford physicist Leonard Susskind gave a great talk on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DIl3Hfh9tY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DIl3Hfh9tY

Nice! Thinking again, it is a good that there is some science behind this. Good place to start

I believe that's a current theory in the Physics community. Also, it reminds me a bit of the miniature galaxy from the original Men in Black film - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7ojSW5pODk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7ojSW5pODk
