I think the newspapers will link to full copies for perusal, but include highlights/excerpts in their articles. The biggest problem the DDoS creates, in my eyes, is that anyone reading about the leaks will go to Wikileaks.org and find a dead page and then forget about it, thus minimising their exposure to the other doings of Wikileaks.
