Maybe in end result they are similar. I think though the institutional problem behind why this happens is compensation and bonus structures. It is even more foundational in the sense that one guys that manages to land a deal is literally valued $100m to a company which seems like a good cost-to-company argument for a $10m bonus, netting in $90m. Simplistically, at least.
