- ja27 16y agoWouldn't you have to pay the tax even when it wasn't on sale?
- jws 16y agoIt is possible to buy from an online retailer which does not have a presence in your state, then not report the transaction to your state and avoid both sales and excise tax. It is illegal but never prosecuted and so widespread that most people don't even know they are supposed to pay tax on their mail order goods. When you see news articles about "taxing the internet" they are usually about fixing this so all sales transactions will be taxed.
