Now I'm an Android user with envy. It looks like that the Android ecosystem quit the development of tablets. I don't know of any that get near the features of iPads. Do you know any good Android Tablets?
- maxxxxx 8y agoNo. The Nexus 7 was a huge step but from then it went downhill.
- jasonvorhe 8y agoNo, Android on tablets is dead. Chrome OS will probably fill that hole but it's not there yet. (I own a Pixel Slate and using it as a tablet alone is a horrible experience.) Go with an iPad if you're in the market for a tablet.
- neves 8y agoI still like my nexus, but it doesn't charge anymore. I'd like to replace it :-(
- jxdxbx 8y agoHardware-wise Samsung's OLED tablets are nice, especially for reading, but it's hard to justify spending a lot on one given the weak software. I think that the Lenovo Tab 4 8 is a decent tablet, much better than the Amazon Fires both in terms of hardware, and also because it supports Google Play. But when you're spending only about $120 there are compromises: you notice the slowness when rendering webpages and scrolling, and the screen is pretty low PPI. On the plus side the Lenovo tablets have built-in FM radios, which is kind of neat. For smallish tablets where blown-up phone apps (which is all you usually get) aren't so bad, Android is ok. Functional, even if iPads really do have much better apps across the board. Recent versions have made it much harder for apps to access USB OTG drives, which is sort of a bummer, as I used to have Wikipedia offline on a USB stick and now the app I used to access it can't.
- heyheyhey 8y agoMi Pad 4 is an option.
- dredmorbius 8y agoI'm looking to see what Purism comes out with -- full Linux tablet. Android's been an absolute fucking disaster (I'm responding on one now). All the more frustrating because it's so near to what I'd like, but is intentionally crippled in dozens of ways. iPad lacks a local userland. Termux has been one of the few delights on Android.
