- xhruso00 8y agoI don't think HW update would justify the abandonware on macOS. They simply shifted the whole focus on iOS.
- neuronic 8y ago> We could have gotten MacBooks with touch-screen by now I had a touchscreen laptop before and to me it was just incredibly useless. I am quite happy that Macbooks do _not_ have a touchscreen. If I want that, I get an iPad Pro.
- arvinsim 8y agoI have the iPad Pro. It doesn’t even beginto compare to what I use my Macbook for.
- ogre_codes 8y agoI have an MacBook Pro and it doesn't even being to compare to what my iPad Pro can do. I've done the vast majority of research, planning, organizing, and documenting my new house build on the iPad and it's massively better at pretty much everything. Of course the MBP kicks ass for my day job as a developer. Different form factors, different software, different use-cases.
- arvinsim 8y agoI actually agree with you. I was objecting to the parent's implication that a Macbook with touchscreen == iPad Pro.
- imandride 8y agoI have a Surface Book and after having the flexibility of having a work/drawing/gaming device in one device makes everything else seem incredibly useless.
- jdgoesmarching 8y agoI always see this argument around here and Reddit. Even as a huge Apple fanboy I think it's stupid. Touch is a great input method. Cursors are a great input method. Apple is the only computer company not offering a device with both.
- asdff 8y agoThe reason why apple doesn't want it is because it would cannibalize iPad sales. The reason why I don't want it is because it would either jack up the price of the macbook, or result in other components being worse to keep the price point the same.
- floatingatoll 8y agoYour comment suggests that Apple would offer touchscreen MacBooks if they invested more focus onto macOS. Their comments disprove your hypothesis. Apple has outright dismissed touchscreen MacBooks as inappropriate for their customers, as recently as mid-2018. This implies not only that they focused on macOS devices with respect to touchscreens, but then decided they were a bad idea, and further decided to share that with the press. https://www.wired.com/story/wwdc-2018-federighi-ios-apps-on-macos/ https://www.wired.com/story/wwdc-2018-federighi-ios-apps-on-...
