I can’t imagine using the iPad without the bezels.
With a phone you grip the phone by its back, so you can go bezelless without impacting visibility and causing too many phantom screen taps. With a tablet, however, you will usually grip it by its sides. Having the bezels is almost a necessity here.
- Someone1234 8y agoAgreed. I'd suggest people take a look at the "Kindle Oasis" for ergonomics. Instead of backing away from bezel, they put more bezel where you'd naturally hold it and a rear indentation for grip-ability. The device is pricey and niche, but credit where credit is due: they deserve praise for bucking market trends and just making a device really comfortable to hold.
- kalleboo 8y agoIt depends completely on the quality of the palm rejection. Apple's laptops have comically large trackpads that are impossible to avoid, but it's never been a problem for me thanks to the good palm rejection software.
- wlesieutre 8y agoI have a 9.7" iPad Pro, the one from 2016 before it went up to a 10.5" screen and started the bezel shrink trend. You can hold it by the bezel one-handed, but I wouldn't do this for more than a few seconds. If I'm holding it one-handed to write/draw with the pencil, I'm generally supporting it on the inside of my forearm and gripping the top corner with my hand to keep it there. Two-handed I'll hold by the bottom corners to use the split keyboard once in a while. In either case I don't really need the bezel. I do have a slim hard case on it though, maybe without that people are doing more of the "thumb on the front" for grip leverage.
- rhinoceraptor 8y agoI have the 11" ipad pro with the small bezels, and it's not really an issue for me. It's a very light device (at least when the keyboard/folio is not attached), and the touch rejection is good enough that you can use it even with your thumb on the screen.
- bookofjoe 8y agoHaving bought the 12.9" Gen 3 Pro & owning a 2012 iPad Gen 3 & 2013 iPad mini Gen 2, I will say that I can't imagine ever again buying a tablet WITH bezels. Sense of immersion without borders is WAY more intense.
- threatofrain 8y agoThere's a difference between the iPad Air/Mini and iPad Pro bezel profile; so do you think the iPad Pro goes too far in trading away ergonomics?
