Can anyone explain the importance of the term "oriented" in OOP?
- chrisseaton 8y agoNot sure if you're asking literally, but 'oriented' (or I'd normally write 'orientated' myself) means something like 'aligned around'. Object orientated programming is a programming model aligned around objects as the central concept. As opposed to aligned around procedures, or functions, or aspects, or something else.
- sgc 8y agoI guess I erred on the side of vagueness. I did understand the basic significance, but I was wondering if there was some technicality of the way OOP should be implemented per Kay or other well respected contributors to the OOP model that is referenced, e.g. the relationship between messages and objects in the paradigm, or some other thing. I did not see the term explained in this thread, his AMA, or the emails.
