Also I've had nothing but positive experiences when emailing for help / support / suggestions, have you tried that? You probably did the lifetime membership when the intro / debut post was on HN a few years back... not sure if the app developer(s) are still active on HN (probably?) but you could probably contact / post / follow up that way too.
