Progress seems to always be extremely slow, and then it just happens remarkably fast. The scary part is you never know when the punctuated equilibrium will flip. Take CRISPR for example... sheesh. You never know when they'll figure out scaffolding, could be sooner than you think. Could be later. Hopefully sooner.
