I don’t believe this. The GOP is desperate to discredit him because he puts Texas into play a couple years early. This smells like a weak hit job. I’m not sold

I’m not sold as Beto as the candidate but this is a weak meme. 2/10 be best.
- pnw_hazor 8y agoIf Beto had an R after his name instead of a D, you’d hear he was boarding-school-attending judge’s son who dodged serious charges for the DUI & burglary, used eminent domain to gentrify poor Latino neighborhoods & married into a billionaire’s family. https://www.nationalreview.com/the-morning-jolt/brace-yourselves-for-betomania/ https://www.nationalreview.com/the-morning-jolt/brace-yourse...
- MrZongle2 8y agoYep. There are two sides to any story. We only get one anymore; which one depends upon the political affiliation of the media organization or author and how it relates to the subject. The other side of the story is immediately dismissed as either a smear job or puff piece by partisans.
- grayed-down 8y agoYep, that's SOP. Lionize the D's. Brutalize the R's
- acdha 8y agoThe author of that piece is desperately trying to push the discrimination narrative, hoping nobody looks outside of the bubble long enough to question it. Anyone who wasn’t completely tuned out during 2018, however, will question it because it got so much coverage during the campaign — I mean, the DUI was such a secret that he spent a fair amount of debate time talking about it.

He agreed to be interviewed for this, so this would be a pretty poor attempt at a hit job if it was one. Source: > No one in cDc would talk about O’Rourke until I promised not to publish before the 2018 election. That was OK: I wanted the full story for my book, which spans decades, rather than 1 scoop ahead of a state vote. I offered O’Rourke the same terms. He accepted, and we spoke. - gaze 8y agoAs far as I can tell, he’s trying to smush down attention on his voting record by creating as much buzz as possible about how he’s antiestablishment.
- theli0nheart 8y agoYep, you nailed it. If anything, he's going to milk this for all that it's worth. He's not going to get far in the primaries by being an establishment candidate.
- gaze 8y agoand people wonder why voter turnout is low when we have candidates that don’t seem to actually believe in anything...
- Varcht 8y agoIf /ˈbɛ.toʊ oʊ.rɔːrk/ was R he would be buried on "TacoLand" alone.
- gglitch 8y agoWhat's with the strange serialization? Does that mean something I'm not aware of?

- djur 8y agoThe author of this piece writes books about hackers. In the process of writing a book about a famous hacking group, he learned that a major political figure was a member when he was younger. That seems newsworthy and not like a "hit job" at all.
