Answer this question to satiate my curiosity, what if Stripe and Paypal refuse to process credit card payments for these authors?
What if Square refuses to swipe cards at the flea market for the author?
- _trampeltier 8y agoIt does already happen. There are many cases like Fetlife etc ...
- imgabe 8y agoPaypal (and probably Stripe?) are notorious for freezing customer accounts with little to no explanation, so to answer you question to what if they did that...probably nothing? Paypal or Stripe or Square are not any more obligated to do business with a particular customer than anyone else is. They can always accept cash, checks, Bitcoin, barter.
- jpindar 8y agoPaypal already refuses to allow itself to be used for sales of various legal but controversial products.
- ryanwaggoner 8y agoAs does Stripe
- zeckalpha 8y agoStripe and PayPal choose to work with certain credit card networks, not all.
- thefounder 8y agoStripe and Paypal along with Braintree and many others refuse to process credit cards for all kind of products(i.e sale of kodi boxes). This on top of Visa and Mastercard ban policies. Something like Youtube would never be allowed to process credit cards if it didnt't have a big corporation/money behind.

I believe this will always be a concern unless cryptocurrency becomes widely accepted. Any centralized payment processing system will likely cause certain people to be excluded.
- exolymph 8y agoCorrect. The incentives and pressures on centralized payment processors are never going to change.
- Corrado 8y agoI have friends who run a 100% legal horse racing “fantasy” site and they can’t get a CC processor to work with them at all. This includes Stripe and PayPal. I’m sure that adult entertainment has the same problem. Your question inst new at all and many industries have been fighting that same battle for years.
