I'd like to see an optional mode, similar to unsafe mode, where strings would be reference counted, as in say Delphi. A lot of the nitpicking with strings would go away, allowing Rust to compete even with dynamic languages. When a single tool is suitable for both low level and high level work, it is the tool I'll always pick.
