I find it scary that Trump had to issue an Executive Order to get this to happen. It tells me that the FAA no longer cares about safety, but is more interested in corporate interests over the lives of 180+ people at any given time.
- joshmn 8y agoI have little faith that he "had" to issue anything. It falls in line with his pattern of dick swinging. "Look, I saved you guys! Your favorite president saved you!" In due time we'll hear how he told FAA he'd handle the optics.
- usaphp 8y agoIs there anything he can do to get any positive approval? I am not american but from outside point of view it seems like in every thread or news comments section it seems like even if Trump saved 50 babies from a burning house people will still find a reason to blame him and search for a bad motive.
- joshmn 8y agoGetting off Twitter would probably boost his approval by a couple points. People can and will disagree with policies regardless of who or what is in office. But the way he conducts himself and the people he surrounds himself with really push people the opposite way, though at the same time it's distracting from some of his less agreeable policies.
- ceejayoz 8y agoThere's a proverb, "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me". If Trump ran into a burning house - something entirely out of character - I'd probably lean towards "guess he's chucking the Mueller report in there". See also: stopped clock being right twice a day.
- happytoexplain 8y agoA big part of his image, both admitted and admired, is essentially being an asshole. This is unusual, to say the least, and it can't be surprising that the reactions to this president reflect that.
- intopieces 8y agoHe can continue to do whatever he wants and get positive approval, which current sits at around 41.8% [0] https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/ https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/
- dragonwriter 8y ago> He can continue to do whatever he wants and get positive approval Your own source shows him with a current negative 11.5% net approval. If you mean positive gross approval, well, as long as he approves of himself he has that.
- intopieces 8y agoThis seems to be a distinction without a difference given how American politics works. You don’t need net positive approval to get elected, as evidenced by Trump’s current position as President. For this reason, it makes more sense in this context to say Trump does have positive approval from 4 in 10 Americans and the claim that “the world / media / etc” are wholly biased against him no matter what doesn’t hold water.
- 5874-4b22-a4e0 8y agoWhat do you think about that tim apple interaction? If you see proof that the president lies, to doners, and media, does that sow any hint that he is not honest? Credit is easy to lose.
- fixermark 8y agoTrust is the currency of politics. Trump is a documented pathological liar, far beyond anything US politics has seen in multiple generations of Presidents. It isn't the "truth massaging" that Americans expect all politicians to engage in---it's pathological lying about trivial issues as well as large. He has burned trust at so many points in his life---before his election and during his Presidency---that if there was a report he saved 50 babies from a burning house, the very reasonable first instinct of many non-eye-witnesses would be to question the source of the report and verify there was a housefire at all.
- ars 8y agoNot for Democrats. They hate him for winning. There is nothing whatsoever he (or anyone) can do to make them like him. He was being criticized for not grounding the plane, and then criticized for grounding it. (He had nothing to do with either decision.) Liberals are overrepresented online. So if your only contact with Americans is online it's understandable what you are seeing. The real world is rather different though.
- RandomTisk 8y agoIn 2 to 6 years we'll be right back to everyone giving the executive branch the benefit of the doubt again.
