It was a pragmatic style though (mainly a Java++ if you will). So, not all Scala places are like that. That being said, I would probably not use Scala for the same product they were building today. Kotlin is much more pragmatic, better standard library, better IDE support, and better interoperability with Java. SBT is slow and sluggish, not excusable really.
