I don't think that altering the technical details regarding the implementation of HTML, CSS et al would do much of anything to stop the proliferation of walled gardens and spyware.
- klez 8y agoYou're right, it wouldn't. But the fact is that once the arguably most important thing the w3c did got out of their hands, they lost importance as a whole. So they now have little political power to push back on other things.
