It may be an impression of mine, but it seems that such articles proposing a return to the simplicity are appearing more often here. I've just commented on another one questioning the nowadays richer front-ends. This article here resonated to me as well. We are currently running a fairly busy web app on a single Linux cloud-based VM instance, occasionally rising new instances during higher loads, and a deployment pipeline based on small python and shell scripts. Maybe rudimentary for some current standards, but it's been working sufficiently well.
