SAP to pay Oracle $1.3 billion in damages
- yafujifide 16y agoI had trouble understanding exactly what SAP did, so I found an article on the story: http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/11/15/oracle-v-sap-a-silicon-valley-soap-opera/ http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/11/15/oracle-v-sap-a-silico...
- xxpor 16y agoThat article states HP competes with Oracle. How?
- pmorici 16y agoThey both sell server hardware, now that Oracle owns Sun.
- cubicle67 16y agoIt seems, to my poor caffeine deprived brain, that there's a whole lot of the story missing. There's only three things mentioned, and they seem unrelated (and two of them just plain odd) * Four years ago, an SAP subsidiary called TomorrowNow admitted to using information from documents it had illegally downloaded to try and woo customers away from Oracle * SAP's web scraper alone resulted in millions of copies of Oracle's downloaded software and support materials on SAP's servers * ...thousands of copies of Oracle applications software made from Oracle's CDs
- cubicle67 16y agoBetter explanation of the case here http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-11-15/sap-s-mcdermott-says-tomorrownow-wasn-t-sales-driver-.html http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-11-15/sap-s-mcdermott-...
- RickHull 16y agoFrom that link it seems that TomorrowNow had a promising marketing and sales division that improperly used Oracle IP. While this improper use was going on, TomorrowNow gets to put up big numbers. SAP buys TomorrowNow based on those big numbers. Those big numbers turn out to be fraudulent, and SAP is on the hook.
