Comma.ai founder George Hotz wants to free humanity from the AI simulation
- ackfoo 8y agoPeople just don't use their own brains. Someone like GeoHot comes up with a fantastical notion and they're all over it, no matter how ridiculous it might be. Success in one field does not convey expertise in another. We overvalue achievement in capitalism because it is the fairy tale we grew up on, and we think people like Bill Gates or Elon have special insights. More likely they were just lucky. Back Elizabeth Holmes as Chief Science Officer? Are you completely nuts? She barely has BIO101. Gates thinks we should do nuclear. Are you people fucking crazy? He's a dropout. He probably can't even list the decay modes in the transuranic series. GeoHot and Elon think we're in a simulation? They're either profoundly ignorant of physics or they're trolling you... and you sucked it right up! Here's the shiz, you little sycophants, since you apparently can't think it through for yourselves. We don't need fucking nuclear. Changing the goddamned building codes to mandate green technologies like ICF could save 80% of our power. The only reason you little shits won't do it is because it might cost a bit more to build and more government regulations might "hurt the free market" that you're all so mindlessly fucking devoted to as you starve because the pollinators are all dying and drown as the sea levels rise and choke on and get cancer from the bad air. And we're not in a simulation, you idiots. The universe is a complex dynamic system. It's chaotic. You can't simulate it because you can't reduce a complex dynamic system to a simulation for the same reason you can't compress a random series. The only reason that stupid people might think we're in a simulation is because they have a magical idea that the universe is deterministic. Newton approximated motion, and when we were sure he was wrong, Einstein approximated space-time. No math, and certainly no geometry, can precisely describe a chaotic system, because Planck and Heisenberg. This stuff is approaching it's centenary, get with the program. And don't even think about putting a scientifically-illiterate wish-fullfilment guru like Elizabeth Holmes in charge of science at a startup. Have you learned nothing?
- Nuzzerino 8y agoSounds like some of the guys I knew from zerostate.net. Some of these ideas can be a serious rabbit hole, and articles like this only barely scratch the surface. Losing one's mind in the process is a real risk of entertaining such philosophies for the wrong reasons.
- ksynwa 8y agoIs this the geohotz that found PS3 exploits?
- NikkiA 8y agoFTA > He landed himself in hot water when he jailbroke Sony’s PlayStation 3, leading to a contentious lawsuit that was later settled. yes.
- Crosseye_Jack 8y agoAnd one of the first (if not the first, but I can’t recall) jailbreaks and carrier unlocks for the iPhone.
