Probably bad that the Trump administration don't want to invest anything in AI Research, but to claim it's a brain drain just because the US don't have open borders is a bit ridiculous for me as an European. There is still immigration to the US and by the looks of it mostly educated immigration. I could imagine myself moving to the states in the future and I don't think it would be impossible for me to do that? The US still have very large and popular corporations that invest heavily in AI research. Just because it isn't government funded it doesn't mean that the US won't be competitive in that field. I'm sure the country where I am from, Sweden invests more than $0 into AI research but I am also sure that we probably won't be able to compete with the US.
